Stuyvesant high school admission apply online and seven other elite high schools are public high schools established and operated by the New York City Department of Education to meet the needs of academically gifted students.

 

New York state education law makes a written test the only requirement for Admission portal login to these schools. Places are awarded to students who score the highest marks in the entrance test, the Specialized High School Entrance Examination. Although each specific high school has its own unique characteristics, Stuyvesant emphasizes math, science, and technology education.

 

Stuyvesant also offers many engaging electives and a wide range of Advanced Placement courses. Of course, Stuyvesant also offers all of the essential New York State academic courses every student needs for success in college and beyond. Enrichment courses in the humanities are available.

The exciting and academically challenging atmosphere of elite high schools stimulates both students and faculty. The New York City Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) is offered to all eighth and ninth-grade students living in the five boroughs of New York City who wish to attend Stuyvesant or another specialized high school

The tests are graded and arranged in order of rank from highest to lowest score. Each school has a number of freshman and sophomore seats to fill. The seats are filled with the highest exam marks. When all the available seats are filled, the cutoff mark is determined. Students who miss the cutoff of their first-choice school can be assigned to their second-choice school if their score is above that school’s cutoff. This process continues until all seats in specific high schools are filled.

It is necessary that the students take the exam in the prescribed school. Application for the test and information about all specific high schools are available at all eighth and ninth-grade schools in New York City. SHSAT is administered in December this year (2022). Students are notified of their acceptance into one of the specialized high schools the following spring. See Stuyvesant’s current brochure below.

The dress code, which was introduced in the fall, prohibits students from wearing tops that are not in good taste.
Shorts, dresses, and skirts are not allowed to end above the fingers when students extend their arms downward.
Principal Stanley Teitel did not respond to an email seeking comment.
But he told the student newspaper last year — when the dress code was first under consideration — that the policy was intended to create a better learning environment.
